Vancouver 2018 and The International 8

Having learned that this year's DOTA2 tournament (that's a computer game for the uninitiated) was going to be in Vancouver this year (due to Seattle's Key Arena undergoing renovations for the next 2 years), a few close friends decided that we should head over and enjoy Vancouver and the tournament. Not much was planned besides watching the tournament and eating and boy, did we do a lot of eating. Again, not many photos but trust me, we were very full!

When we had free time, we also walked around and enjoyed the sights of Vancouver. There were a few photo opportunities here and there, so please enjoy!

The Seawall walk was great but the visibility (and air quality) was horrendous. Those BC forest fires made breathing feel like a challenge.

You can barely make out anything past the fueling station

Nevertheless, the smoke gave the whole area a very moody, spooky vibe. Almost like something you'd see in a zombie movie.

The Vancouver Skyline peeking through the smoke.

The next day the smoke receded significantly, which made the visibility much better.

The Telus World of Science on the waterfront, near Olympic Village

BC Place and some very expensive-to-live-in highrises!

Pigeons perfectly posed and perched.

Brandon almost got pushed into the water. Savagery.

After walking around, I can safely say that if I could afford it, I'd totally live in Olympic Village. Close to downtown, close to water, but much slower paced than downtown. Maybe one day!

Unfortunately, I didn't end up taking many photos. I've found that lugging a big DSLR around is pretty annoying for travelling. I think I'm going to invest in a smaller "bring along everyday" camera to use for trips. Maybe a Sony RX100?

Until next,
Gary
