Portraiture

I almost never do portrait shoots. It's not that I don't want to, but rather due to a multitude of factors that could be considered excuses. For example, I have no idea how to recruit people to practice portraiture. Secondly, I have no idea how to tell them to pose. I'm an amateur photographer on the best of days and have no clue the rest of the time. Finally, booking time is a big commitment that I'm not sure I can follow through on. I haphazardly choose to shoot whenever, wherever. There's no structure.

Selfie.

But since I'm limited in both my current creativity and imagination, and also because you can only shoot Edmonton's skyline so many times before it becomes stale, I think I'm going to push for an active effort to shoot portraiture/street photography more. There's something special about capturing both candid moments and framing an intentional pose that a lot of landscape and urban photography can't match. A vacation happens once a year, a car meet happens every weekend, but people live everyday and to be able to capture more moments one's life is the sort of reason I started the site in the first place. And sure, meeting new people can't hurt either.
