Illmotion Sunday School 2018

August arrived bearing dark clouds and smoke. It's been difficult to get out due to the poor air quality, but summer only lasts so long and you've got to take advantage of it however you can. Which is exactly what I did this weekend, as I headed down to Calgary with the TT Auto crew to hang out, eat, and attend the Illmotion Show and Shine.

Now I've never been to the Illmotion show but seeing Youtube vlogs from popular vloggers like kingsmustrise and Lowcals, I was interested. When I heard TT was coming down, I checked my schedule to make sure it was clear before I returned a resounding yes. This would also be the first time I drove the 911 down to Calgary, which was a great experience. The car has great highway manners and enough power to make passing people a breeze. Certainly easier than in the Camry, anyways!

Arrived at Chad's house (aka our good friend and free airbnb provider). Not pictured is how dirty these our cars actually were! The smoke and rain from last night left a lot of residue on them.

The remainder of our Saturday was spent eating, shopping, eating, and crushing escape rooms with the dream team. Sunday we headed downtown for breakfast and then right to the Illmotion show. In previous years, this show was held at the Max Bell Center, but given the recent growth of the show (and the car scene in general), it's relocated to an Indigo parking lot in downtown Calgary. Now initially I had my reservations, thinking that a show in Downtown is going to be dull, but Calgary's skyline in the background made for some great backdrops. Needless to say, I was impressed!

Starting off in the lot we parked in, we saw RWB Calgary #1, a black 964 cabriolet. I remember hearing about Nakai coming to Calgary and was amazed at the end product. Widebody Porsches never fail to impress!

A rear end shot with the YYC skyline in the background.

White M4 with Vorsteiners. I love the agressive style of the wheel on the M4. I considered getting Vorsteiners for the 911 but the round shape of the 911 and the angular wheels don't go that well together.

Suzuki Alto Works! Any MightyCarMods fan would point out this car in an instant. The 3 spoke red wheels are a cool retro touch.

Old Celica. Those staggered headlights are so cool.

Saw this 400R at Driven Calgary 2017, great seeing it outdoors. So incredibly rare that people were walking by wondering if it was the real deal!

Nardi wheel in a vintage cockpit. Interior is immaculate.

Row of 4Runners. I was never into off-roading/overlanding when I was younger, but I definitely see the appeal of these 4WD beasts now. Love how most of them have TE37s as well!

Questionable paint job (looks like it was done with a paint roller) but the decal on the door was too good to pass up.

Slammed F355 Berlinetta on Works Meisters. Love the slammed look on older Ferraris. I hear Terence might be doing something similar *hint hint*

Clean R34 on TE37s

Loving the low offset Work Emotions on this Tiffany Blue wrapped Evo X

Vertex is king

Really love the stance of this STi. Also, that hood scoop is gigantic!

Audi RS7 slammed on Vossens. I'm a sucker for big 4 door sedans, even more so if they're low and have a roof rack.

LostRoyalty+ 's Simon and Steven with the FRS and STi, respectively. My favorites.

DerpyFRS (Simon)'s car is my favorite of the 86/BRZ chassis cars. Always pushing the envelope and does everything himself. Shame that CWest front bumper was destroyed recently, my condolences.

Kamikaze GTR. Wide and menacing.

Old and New NSX's. Pick you poison (they're both for sale)

@woooster's 964 Carrera 4 was hands down my favorite car at the show. The stance is perfect and it's immaculate. Shame that he had issues with the 4WD system and had to push it into the show. Also a shame that I had a rear 3/4 shot of this beautiful car but it ended up being blurry! I'll just have to shoot it again at some point.

This is the car I aspire to own. 997 GT3 with TE37's and a Voltex CF wing. Maybe in a million years when I have disposable income to drop on a GT3 this will still be available for sale...

Hood exit exhaust for this turbocharged Honda. Shaved and tucked bay and not a speck of dust on it. Honda guys/gals know how show off an engine bay!

Bagged Audi love. The Supreme X LV wrapped tank is a cool touch as well.

I've shot Carlo's car a few times and it never gets old. The new kit is so aggressive and looks amazing.

Finishing things up is this BMW wagon. TE37's, Roof rack, low to the ground. Big thumbs up!

After the show, we spent some time eating ice cream, having dinner, and heading back home. I'm not sure if I'll be attending any more shows besides the 780Tuners season closer, but I am planning some photoshoots with some friends cars, so be on the lookout!

Cheers,
Gary
